• The demand for services and access to capital by farmworkers attempting to purchase their own farm spurred the creation of the Center in late 2001.
• The program helps empower socially disadvantaged farmers/ranchers by providing educational workshops to help them understand the diffwrent aspects of farming and connecting them to all USDA programs.
The services have focused on the growing number of limited English speaking farm workers who want to transition from farmworkers to farm owners.
• Assist in packaging of USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) low interest FSA loans for farm purchases, equipment or operations.
• Facilitate the technical support for development of farm markeing cooperatives to increase the profits for new and emerging farmers.
• Providing educational how-to workshops on financial management, risk management (with support from USDA's Risk Management Agency (RMA) such as:
- Basic and Intermediate Computer Skills
- Marketing
- Crop Insurance
- Quickbooks
- Pest Management & Pest Certification
- Conservation and green practices
- Water Rights
- Organic & Specialty crops
- FSA Financial Borrower Training - The Center is currently one of two Community Based Organizations in the US that are certified as vendors for this training.
•Over 380 Latino farmers have been identified throughout Washington State.
